Welcome to CatherWoods, our little piece of the world in historic Bucks County Pennsylvania. My husband and I are both animal lovers and share our home with our "fur kids".  Our pets all have their own unique personalities and they often inspire my work.  I am blessed in that my husband and my family wholeheartedly support me in my bear making. You are nothing without family and for me they come before all else. The photos used for CatherWoods.com are all family photos!

The Arts have always been an important part of my life. I have found great joy in painting, quilting, decorative baking, stained glass, and primitive arts over the years. My parents have an audio tape of me at age 2 stating when I grow up "I want to crayon”. Well, I guess what I do now is pretty close! I still use crayons to shade in bear sketches before creating a pattern.  It’s amazing how simply using a crayon can bring out the kid inside.

    I began creating traditional styled mini bears in 2003 and now happily create larger sized classic bears as well. For me the enjoyment and artistic satisfaction lies in capturing the soulful simplicity of a much loved teddy bear.  As a child he was the solid faithful friend you kept close for security and comfort while as an adult his simple sophistication still melts your heart. 

    Creating classic bears fits my personality and artistic needs perfectly. I love finding vintage pieces and using them as inspiration. I can get lost amongst the aisles in any antique shop! I enjoy referencing storybook etchings, vintage postcards and photographs in order to create a bear that will touch your memory and heart. My home is filled with vintage furniture and arts that I adore, so to create something that I am personally drawn to is such a joy and very special to me. I am blessed to be able to do something that brings joy to both myself and the collector. 

    My bears and vintage styled keepsakes are all original patterns and designs. Larger teddy bears are made from the finest German and English Mohair. Miniature bears may be made from Mohair or Vintage Rayon Chenille, often referred to as Vintage Upholstery Fabric. All bears are fully jointed and created with premium glass eyes, hand stitched perle cotton noses, and paw pads of fine wools, "ultrasuede", or trimmed mohair. Extensive scissor and needle sculpting along with gentle shading bring out each bear's unique character and personality. I often use vintage clothing and accessories in my designs.
